OUR STORY

When cancer struck our family, it struck hard—and twice.

In late 2018, our son, Bryan DeCaul, Jr. was diagnosed with stage four testicular germ cancer after what seemed like stubborn flu-like symptoms. As his caregiver, I watched him dream about his future while fighting for his life for three years, enduring rounds of chemotherapy and radiation.

Then, five months before Bryan Jr. passed away, my world shattered again—I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

It was October—Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Mammogram exams were being advertised at a discounted rate of $35, so I waited for the special. But when I arrived for my appointment, the receptionist told me the real cost was $400. My heart sank. We were already financially stretched thin, pouring everything we had into Bryan Jr.’s care. I simply didn’t have it.

I walked out of that doctor’s office feeling defeated, discouraged, hopeless, and unsure when I’d be able to get the exam. But God saw me. After sharing my story with my pastor and a friend, within hours they sent me $400 through Cash App so I could schedule the mammogram.

That act of generosity saved my life—or at least gave me the chance to fight. After the mammogram and further tests, the doctor delivered the news: I had stage four breast cancer.

THE MISSION

The DeCaul Foundation, we believe no woman should have to choose between paying her bills and protecting her life. Our mission is to break fear and financial barriers by providing access to early detection breast health screenings—because early detection saves lives.

Through partnerships with trusted testing sites, we sponsor life-saving mammograms and screenings for women who might otherwise go without. Every screening we fund is a chance for a mother, daughter, sister, or friend to live longer and thrive.

Together, we can turn fear into hope—and hope into.

THE DECAUL FOUNDATION

The DeCaul Foundation was born from a family’s fight against cancer—twice. After losing their son Bryan Jr. to stage four cancer and facing Michele’s own diagnosis just months before his passing, Bryan and Michele DeCaul chose to transform their pain into purpose.

Rooted in faith and fueled by compassion, the DeCaul Foundation provides access to life-saving breast health screenings for women who might otherwise go without. Our mission is simple: remove barriers, promote early detection, and give more women the chance to live longer, healthier lives.

From tragedy to triumph, we stand as a testament that hope can rise from the hardest places.
